Settings: Network

Use settings_icon Settings > Network to view network information, connect the device to Wi-Fi, return it to hotspot mode, configure IP and DNS settings, set the Wi-Fi regulatory domain and manage NTP servers.

Network information​

The Connected to row shows the active network connection. Click the info_icon icon to open the network information dialog.

The dialog contains separate Wi-Fi and Ethernet tabs with:

  • MAC Address
  • Connected status
  • Connection Name
  • IP Address

Use these values when registering the device on a managed network, creating a DHCP reservation, or finding the device after changing networks.

Connecting to Wi-Fi​

To connect to a Wi-Fi network:

  1. Go to settings_icon Settings > Network.

  2. Under Connect to New Network, select a visible network from Select New Network.

    If the network is hidden, click Join other network and enter the network name manually.

  3. Select the required Security Type.

  4. Enter the required password, identity or certificate fields for the selected security type.

  5. Choose Automatic (DHCP) or Manual (Static) IP assignment.

  6. Enter custom DNS Servers if required by your network.

  7. Click Connect, then re-connect to the device interface via the same WiFi and confirm the connection via the pop-up.

When changing Wi-Fi settings, connect to the device over Ethernet if possible. Changing Wi-Fi settings while connected over Wi-Fi can interrupt access to the web interface.

Advanced Wi-Fi security​

The Security Type menu supports:

  • WPA-PSK (Personal) - password-based Wi-Fi.
  • TLS (EAP-TLS) - enterprise Wi-Fi with certificate-based authentication.
  • PEAP (EAP-PEAP), TTLS (EAP-TTLS), LEAP (EAP-LEAP) and PWD (EAP-PWD) - enterprise Wi-Fi modes that may require an identity, password, anonymous identity, inner authentication method, or certificate authority file.

Ask your IT team which security type and credentials the device should use. For EAP-TLS networks, you may also need a user certificate, private key and private key password.

IP address and DNS​

Choose Automatic (DHCP) unless your network administrator has provided a static address.

If Manual (Static) is selected, enter:

  • Static IP Address
  • Netmask: this should be in the bit format (e.g. 24 for 255.255.255.0)
  • Gateway

The DNS Servers field accepts comma-separated IPv4 addresses.

Hotspot mode​

When the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, the Network tab shows Forget Wi-Fi and Activate Hotspot.

Click Activate hotspot to disconnect from the current Wi-Fi network and return the device to its own hotspot network. Connect to the device hotspot and confirm the change with Switch network.

After the hotspot is active, connect your computer to the device hotspot and open the web interface at http://192.168.42.1.

Wi-Fi Regulatory Domain​

The Wi-Fi Regulatory Domain setting controls the country or region used by the device Wi-Fi radio.

Select the country where the device is operating, or World if instructed by Slamcore support, then click Save Changes.

The regulatory domain should match the country where the device is used. An incorrect value may reduce Wi-Fi connectivity and stability.

Network Time Protocol Servers​

Slamcore Aware allows the user to customize the Network Time Protocol (NTP) Server to enable time synchronization on the device when it is not possible to connect the device to the internet.

To add a server:

  1. Enter a server URL or IP address, for example ntp.ubuntu.com.
  2. Click Add New Server.

More than one NTP server can be added. The operating system polls custom servers in reverse order, so the most recently added server is polled first.

If no custom server is configured, the device uses the operating system default NTP pool, x.pool.ntp.org.

Previously added servers are shown in the list below the input field and can be removed from there.
