Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

What do I need before using the device?

Before using the device:

  • Ensure you have identified an external power source for the unit. Please see Power Requirements for details on suitable power sources. You can use the included power cable to connect the device to this power supply.
  • Ensure you have identified a mounting location for the compute unit and sensor. Please see Device Mounting Guide for for mounting options and recommendations on where to install the device and sensor.
  • Ensure you have set up the included marker boards across your facility, as explained in Facility Setup.
  • Ensure you have installed the Wi-Fi antennas on the device.
  • Ensure you have connected the sensor unit to the Cam1 port of the compute unit before powering on the device. If you connect the sensor unit after the device has been turned on, please reboot the device.
Where can I find the MAC address of the device?

Both the Wi-Fi and Ethernet MAC addresses of the device are printed on a label on the outside of the device.

Additionally, it is possible to find the MAC addresses through the info_icon button found in the Settings > Network page of the web interface.

The device has a red/green flashing light, is it operating normally?

Yes, this is the regular blinking pattern expected during normal operation as explained in Hardware Interfaces.

Is any data captured and stored on the device?

Live position data (trajectory file) as well as telemetry and support files are saved to the device whilst localisation is active. Map updates are saved to the device when localisation is stopped or the device is shut down gracefully. The Trajectories and Logs page of the documentation provides details on all the data that is captured on the device.

My facility layout changed, do I need to generate a new map?

The Slamcore Aware system is robust to dynamic and changing environments, with automatic map updates happening during normal operation. However, if your facility layout changes significantly (e.g. racking units and parking bays in completely different locations), generating a new map is recommended to ensure optimal performance.

The device is not operating as expected

Please see Troubleshooting.

Mounting and Installation

How and where should I install the device?

Please refer to the Device Mounting Guide for mounting options and recommendations on where to install the device and sensor.

What are the power requirements for the device?

Please see Power Requirements for details on the device power specification and power supply options.

What type of batteries come installed in the device?

Internal batteries are installed into the device before it is shipped to customers. For more information see Internal Batteries.

Can I use the device without the internal batteries?

No. While it is possible to use the device without internal batteries, the device must not be operated in this manner. The device won't be able to shutdown safely without them after external power is disconnected, which could potentially lead to file system corruption.

Connectivity

How can I connect to and interact with the device?

It is possible to connect to the device directly using the device hosted Wi-Fi hotspot network or over direct Ethernet connection between the device and a computer, as explained in Default Network Connection.

It is also possible to connect the device to a facility's Wi-Fi or wired network, as explained in Local Network Connection.

Is a DHCP server required on the network? Can a static IP address be assigned to the device?

A network which uses DHCP is recommended, together with setting up MAC address reservation to ensure the device can be reached at the same IP address every time it reconnects to the network. Alternatively, it is possible to configure a static IP address for the device through the Slamcore Aware web interface. However, the user must ensure this address is within the network subnet and not currently being used by other devices.

Can I re-enable hotspot mode without accessing the web interface?

No, you must connect to the device web interface to re-enable hotspot mode.

See Reactivating Hotspot Mode or Connecting to a different Wi-Fi Network for instructions on how to re-enable hotspot mode. After enabling hotspot mode you will need to connect to the device within 15 minutes to confirm you want to keep the device in this mode.

Can I remotely restart the device?

If the web interface is reachable, the device can be rebooted from settings_icon Settings > General > Reboot device.

If the web interface is not reachable, please refer to Device Reboot & Shutdown for information on using the physical RESET button.

What VDA5050 version does Slamcore Aware use?

VDA5050 Version 2.0.0
