Device Mounting Guide
This section provides guidance on mounting of the Slamcore Aware device. The device can be mounted onto any vehicle meeting the mounting requirements. It is the user's responsibility to ensure the device's mounting arrangement is secure and permanent. For power options please refer to Power Requirements.

Drawings and CAD models for the Slamcore Aware sensor unit and compute unit are available from the Slamcore Aware Kit page.
Mounting Locations
Mounting the Aware Sensor Unit(s)
Mount the main (Cam1) sensor unit so that it meets these requirements:
-
The sensor unit must be mounted with an unobstructed view: the field of view (FOV) is
147.5°(D)/121.5°(H)/73.5°(V). There is a FOV model available, see Drawings and CAD Models. -
The sensor unit must be secured and robust to movements of the vehicle and minimizing mechanical vibrations.
-
The sensor unit must pass vehicle height clearance checks to avoid damage to sensors.
-
When possible, mount the sensor unit facing the forward-drive direction.
Otherwise, in the case of vehicles with forks and other parts obstructing the field of view in the forward-drive direction, the sensor unit should be mounted in the back, facing outwards from the vehicle.
-
For vehicles with a specific accessory mounting point, this is a suitable mounting location.
-
For vehicles with an accessible and suitable overhead guard, the guard is a suitable mount point.
Otherwise, for vehicles with no other suitable mount locations such as a pallet jack or tugger, the area near and in front of the steering wheel can be a suitable location.
In all cases, the Cam1 sensor must face in the forwards or backwards
direction of the vehicle.
If using a second sensor unit (Cam2), try to adhere to the guidelines
for Cam1 as much as possible to give the best view of the scene around
the vehicle.
If required, please contact Slamcore to discuss mounting options for your vehicle.
Mounting the Slamcore Aware Compute Unit
The Aware compute unit can be mounted anywhere on the vehicle fulfilling these requirements:
- Adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.
- Easy access to ports.
- Easy connection to the sensor unit and a power supply.
- Secured and robust to movements of the vehicle.
Note that the FAKRA cable provided to connect the compute and sensor units is 3 meters long.
Mounting Options
You may follow this decision tree to determine the right mounting solution for your setup:

Slamcore supplied mounting options
To aid customers with mounting, Slamcore provides a range of mounting designs which can optionally be used. These provide options to mount the sensor and compute directly to a vehicle on both a permanent or temporary basis.
The designs are made freely available to customers, or can be ordered from Slamcore. These can be fabricated from laser cut and folded sheet metal.
When supplied from Slamcore, fittings are provided with a pre-applied low strength reusable thread-locker to prevent loosening due to vibrations. Essential tools are also provided.
Please note the thread-locker used is normally AccuLock not Loctite, hence Loctite color coding is not applicable.
Example Aware Sensor Unit Mounting
The example Aware sensor unit mounting assembly is compatible with both horizontal and vertical mounting arrangements. It makes provision for adjusting the pitch of the sensor unit. It can be directly screwed or zip tied to a vehicle. Alternatively it is compatible with the Arkon FLIFT02 plates (covered in the Clamped Mount Options (Permanent installation) section).
Slamcore can provide these mounts directly to customers, or they can be fabricated by the customer using the manufacturing pack provided.
The manufacturing pack can be downloaded here (drawings, CAD files).

Example Aware Compute Unit Mounting (MK3)
Slamcore can provide these mounts directly to customers.

Clamped mounting (Permanent installation)

Magnetic mounting (Temporary installation)

Example Aware Compute Unit Mounting (MK2)
The example compute unit mounting assembly can be directly screwed or zip tied to a vehicle. Alternatively it is compatible with the Arkon FLIFT01 plates (covered in the next section, Clamped Mount Options (Permanent installation)).
Slamcore can provide these mounts directly to customers, or they can be fabricated by the customer using the manufacturing pack provided.
The manufacturing pack can be downloaded here (drawings, CAD files).

Clamped Mount Options (Permanent installation)
The compute unit and sensor can be mounted to a vehicle using clamped mounting plates. When using this approach, we recommend using the Slamcore supplied mounting options adapter plates to act as the interface between the Slamcore Aware hardware and the clamped mounting plates. Alternatively, you may design your own adapter components to attach the Slamcore Aware hardware to the plates.

We suggest the following components for the clamped mount option:
Clamped mount components
| Category | Make | Model |
|---|---|---|
| Roof mount (UK) | Arkon | FLIFT01 Forklift Overhead Guard Mount |
| Roof mount (USA) | Arkon | FLIFT01 Forklift Overhead Guard Mount |
| Pillar mount (UK) | Arkon | FLIFT02 Forklift Pillar Mount |
| Pillar mount (USA) | Arkon | FLIFT02 Forklift Pillar Mount |
Magnetic Mount Options (Temporary installation)

Can be used to install sensor units temporarily. We suggest the following components for the magnetic mount option:
Magnetic mount components
| Category | Make | Model |
|---|---|---|
| Single screw (UK) | Arkon | SP142088MAGB |
| Single screw (USA) | Arkon | SP142088MAGB |
| Multiple screw (UK) | Arkon | SPAMPSMAG88 |
| Multiple screw (USA) | Arkon | SPAMPSMAG88 |
Heavy Duty Velcro (Temporary installation)
Can be used to install the units temporarily. When using this method the dynamic and static load capacity of the adhesive must be correctly specified.
Slamcore recommends that in the case units are secured with this mounting method, suitably rated zip ties are installed for redundancy.

Zip ties (Temporary installation)
Can be used to install the units temporarily. When using this method the dynamic and static load capacity of the tie must be correctly specified.
Slamcore recommends that in the case units are secured with zip ties, at least two 20 KG rated zip tie must be used to secure units.
